Stepmom School: Six Steps to a Better Me

If I've learned anything in 2011 so far, it's that I suck at taking care of myself. In a 3-month period I've had my tonsils removed (which was a result of a lifetime of infections); bronchitis, a second-degree sunburn and pneumonia. If that's not my body's way of saying "YO, WOMAN, TAKE BETTER CARE OF ME!!!!!" I don't know what is.

I'm 35 years old and it's taken nearly this long for me to recognize that I am the 'master of my fate and the captain of my soul.' What that boils down to is that no one is responsible for me but me. If I want to ensure that the remainder of my year -- and my lifetime -- is not spent in and out of doctor's offices then I need to step up and start taking better care of myself.

One of the things I've decided to do is to enroll in the Stepmom University's Six Steps to a New You session. From what I can tell, this mini-course is helpful whether you're a stepmom or not. The classes are broken down into prompts that help you to identify people, emotions, etc. that are standing in your way.

I haven't even started the class yet, but I'd almost venture a guess that my own fear of disappointing people is what prevents me from saying no which, in turn, prompts me to overcompensate and overachieve. I guess I'll have to wait for class to start to find out if that's true or not. And if it is, how in the heck can I get past it.

If you're interested in becoming a better you, then consider signing up for the session. It's free (WOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!) and based on some the graduates' responses, it's incredibly effective. The new session starts on Monday (March 28) so hurry up and let's become better "me's" together.

You can register on the Stepmom's Toolbox University page at http://thestepmomstoolbox.com/stepmom-university/
