Stepmom Book Review: The Stepmother

A month ago I mentioned that I was reading The Stepmother, by Carrie Adams. I finished the book in about 3 days (which is typical for me if I'm really enjoying a book).

The Stepmother (Find it on Amazon or HarperCollins) was a good read particularly as a stepmom.

The book opens from the mom's point of view which I found enlightening. As a stepmom without my own child, I don't have the mindset to know what it's like to be the biological mom.  I don't know what it's like to sit with a former partner and watch the collective seed of a previous relationship grow up and suffer through highs and lows. The Stepmother offers that perspective.

The book focuses on two main characters: Bea, the mother and Tessa, the soon-to-be stepmother.

Both characters are written with some typical stereotypes (mom feels old, fat and frumpy; stepmom is written as the younger, more beautiful successful one) however, the problems they encounter are not as typical.

Perhaps the things going on my life right now made feel more connected to the characters in the book, but I really felt a book-lationship with them.

The book ends on a positive note but not without some heartache and hard lessons learned.

Definitely a good read if you're looking for a fiction stepmom book. Has anyone else read this? I'd love to know your thoughts about the book.
